Update on Jurala project

 With good spells of rain in upstream areas, reservoirs across Telangana are receiving good inflows, bringing much needed relief to farmers who intensified agriculture activities over the last two weeks.

While reservoirs on the Godavari were receiving good inflows, the Karnataka government opened gates of Narayanapur project on Wednesday releasing about 1.46 lakh cusecs water, which is likely to reach Jurala project within next 24 hours.

Under the influence of multiple cyclonic systems, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh were receiving copious rain over the last a couple of weeks. Rivulets and streams are in spate in the districts on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, even as the Godavari received heavy inflows. The Godavari Delta system in Andhra Pradesh recorded inflows of 3.79 lakh cusecs, forcing officials to discharge about 3.74 lakh cusecs on Wednesday.

On the Godavari, water storage level in Kaddam project touched 6.9 tmcft against its gross capacity of 7.6 tmcft, with the project receiving about 4,692 cusecs and releasing 5,118 cusecs downstream. During the corresponding period last year, the project’s gross storage level was 5.2 tmcft.Another major project Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) was receiving inflows of 1,226 cusecs and releasing 179 cusecs even as its gross storage level crossed 13.3 tmcft against gross capacity of 90.3 tmcft. Similarly, the Sripada Yellampally project was receiving inflows of 8,713 cusecs and discharging 765 cusecs. Its gross storage was at 12 tmcft against gross capacity of 20.17 tmcft.

In the Krishna Basin area, Karnataka was receiving good rains over the last couple of weeks and started releasing water downstream after the water level in the Almatti project reached 1,701.9 ft of Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 1,705 feet. On Wednesday, the project received inflows of 1.25 lakh cusecs and discharging 1.1 lakh cusecs water downstream.The Narayanapur project also reached 1,611 ft against the FRL of 1,615 feet and the officials lifted gates to release about 1.46 lakh cusecs against the inflows of about 1.06 lakh cusecs.

“The water is likely to reach Jurala project in the next 24 hours. On Wednesday evening, the water level at Jurala was around 1,037.83 ft against the 1,045 ft FRL, and receiving an inflow of about 728 cusecs,” an official said.
