Nagarkurnool: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, during his whirlwind tour of Nagarkurnool and Gadwal districts on Monday, said part of Edula Reservoir in Koderu mandal would be merged with Udandapur reservoir and works for construction of this reservoir would be completed shortly, to enable farmers reap benefits of Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS).

The Minister conducted an aerial survey of Edula reservoir and later, reviewed construction works of reservoir, tunnel and pump house along with irrigation officials.

Addressing the media at the reservoir site, the Minister said that the tunnel being constructed under Edula project was going to be the longest irrigation gravity tunnel in Asia. He said that 145 MW power would be integrated to 32 pumps which will be used in this project. As Edula would come under Udandapur reservoir, he said that an alternative solution to address the shortfall is being contemplated.

Regarding land acquisition, Harish Rao assured that farmers of Bandaranipakula and Konkapally, whose lands would be acquired for the project’s construction, would only be shifted from their current location after alternate housing is provided to them as part of rehabilitation project and also gave the farmers an option to accept monetary assistance for building their own house, if they preferred to do so as part of the rehabilitation and resettlement process.

Harish Rao emphasised that works under PRLIS were on top priority for Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who was getting regular updates about progress of works under the prestigious project, which would realise aspirations of farmers in undivided Mahabubnagar district.

Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and C Laxma Reddy, MLAs Marri Janardhan Reddy and Guvvala Balraju, District Collector Sridhar, Joint Collector Surendra Karan, Chief Engineer Lingaraj, Superintending Engineer E Ramesh and others were present on the occasion.
